Leadership for Future Gastroenterologists
Module overview
Gastroenterology registrars lead every day, often without formal acknowledgment and with no space or time to reflect on how they’re doing it.
Every clinic, ward round and MDT requires you to:
- Manage clinical risk and uncertainty
- Influence without authority
- Negotiate competing priorities
- Support more junior colleagues
- Make decisions with patients in increasingly complex systems
Yet most leadership development arrives after people step into consultant roles, when habits are already formed and pressure is higher.
This programme recognises that leadership in gastroenterology is not about hierarchy or management theory, it is about:
- Leading yourself under pressure
- Leading others through complexity and ambiguity
- Contributing positively to services and cultures that are already stretched
By investing in leadership skills during registrar training, this programme supports you to develop the confidence, judgement and relational skills that make day-to-day work more effective now and consultant practice more sustainable later.
