The Rapid Access IBD Imaging Clinic, triaged by the IBD Clinical Nurse Specialist, reduces hospital admissions and improves patient clinical outcomes. It has the potential to enhance the patient journey through the diagnostic process with support and expert advice. In conjunction with the IBD Advice Line, this clinic has reduced time from symptoms to treatment significantly. By providing two dedicated slots early on a Friday afternoon, the IBD nurse can triage appropriate patients from gastroenterology clinics and endoscopy lists. It allows time for bloods to be taken and access to the abdominal ultrasound scan (USS) clinic. If endoscopy is required post-scan, this is undertaken the following Monday with the gastroenterologists. It provides a seamless approach to the patient journey.
